About Kaneohe Real Estate
On the Windward side of Oahu, just north of Kailua sits the famous Kaneohe Bay and the city of Kaneohe. The views from the H3 freeway are magnificent. From verdant mountain ranges to turquoise waters with happy cirrus and cumulus clouds in the sky, this area is gorgeous.
It is about a 25 minute drive from downtown Honolulu or approximately 20 minutes from Pearl Harbor without traffic.
It’s one of the larger cities on Oahu, with several elementary schools, Hawaii Pacific University just a few miles away off the Pali HWY, and its own shopping mall.
While most of Kaneohe was built back in the 60’s and 70’s, the downtown area has recently undergone a renovation that has invigorated the Kaneohe real estate market.

Background Information
There are plenty of legends about the ancient Polynesian peoples who once populated this beautiful area. In the mid 1800’s, King Kamehameha I returned the land back to its local people prior to unifying all of the islands into one sovereign kingdom.
Historically, Kaneohe was primarily an agricultural community, but now the only crop of any significant is bananas and rice. Its valleys remain lush despite the growth of its housing development.
Today, tourism is Kaneohe’s leading industry as the coastline is one of the most beautiful to be found in Hawaii.
Families and friends come to visit Marines stationed here on the base which just adds to the tourists who come to drink in the natural beauty surrounding them. With Kaneohe Bay being the largest of the sheltered bodies of water in Hawaii, there is a public pier available that attracts thousands of visitors annually.
With the Highway 3 (H3) available, Kaneohe has become a very popular place for buyers who work farther west or south.
H3 allows people to commute quickly through the Koolau Mountain Range to Aiea, Salt Lake, Pearl Harbor, and the Honolulu Airport. While the distance in miles might seem farther to Pearl Harbor, the commute could be faster.
Parks and Recreation in Kaneohe
The biggest benefit of living in Kaneohe is the Kaneohe Bay. It’s the largest sheltered bay on Oahu, and provides breathtaking views from countless locations.
Kaneohe Bay is ideal for boating, sailing, diving, and kite surfing. Becuase it is sheltered, it isn’t the best if you are looking to go surfing. But you certainly can have an ocean picnic on its sand bar. 😉
After spending some time in the bay, you can then go and enjoy one of the three golf courses in the area. Or visit the many shops, and restaurants available.
From anywhere in Kaneohe, you can see the breathtaking Koolau Mountains—the most dominant visual feature of the area. This presents a large number of hiking and walking trails, from beginner to advanced. Bring the family and enjoy the lush green mountains.
So whether you love the mountains or the ocean, they are both beautifully represented in Kaneohe.
Just about everything you need is in Kaneohe, so you get to be away from “town” and still be self-sufficient.
Once you have had a chance to visit this lush and beautiful tropical paradise you will be sold without ever having seen the first property listed for sale.
Whether you were once stationed here as a Marine or are visiting for the first time, the land speaks for itself.
